The power of trust is a magnificent thing and it sets the groundwork for a successful relationship with your horse. September is truly the busiest month of the year for us; sorting the foals from their mommas, weaning, haltering and branding, and then getting the babies gentle.
At first, because most of our foals are born in the pasture, the process of getting the foals gentle is no small feat. They are scared of everything and rely on their flight mechanism for safety. But consistent time and diligence in getting our hands on them, first in groups and then one on one, starts the building blocks of their trust in us. Soon, they start to realize that being close to us is the best place to be, and they receive us as their leader. From time to time, if it’s windy or chilly, they sometimes want to get anxious, but once we get our hand on their lead rope, the relaxation for them is almost instantaneous.
Our first foal left yesterday, and had to be loaded in the dark up a steep ramp into an unfamiliar trailer. We caught her, and led her, and she just stepped into the trailer like it was no big deal. The transportation company said that she loaded better than the trained, broke horses she was hauling… and she also said whatever your breeding program is, keep it up!! This success just came from time built, and trust.
As we were talking about all of this as a family, it just resonates with us that this is how God wants us to follow Him. He is that safe place, the calm place from the wind and the chill. As we get to know our creator, and spend time with Him, our trust in HIM grows, and we are more easily led, we don’t want to run away and do it our own way. All because we know He is leading us to the best things that He has for us… “Every good and perfect gift comes from God above” James 1:17. We encourage you to run towards him and let him take the lead in your lives.
You all are a blessing to this family, and we are grateful for each and every one of you!!
