From the first registered mare purchase, in 1965, Tex’s goal was to build a Third River Ranch remuda filled with mares of sweet temper, performance pedigree and great care of structurally sound, quality, foals.
“My mares have good disposition and are good mothers.”
Tex and Linda are ever ready to share the wonderful memories spanning decades –
… of first, daughters, and then, grand-daughters, who fearlessly walked out to greet new foals as they were born and could be found playing under mare hooves as soon as they could make their way to the herd, on their own two feet.
Tex can only grin over the memories of small children walking amongst his mares, while once more repeating his refusal to keep an ornery mare in the remuda.
Sheepishly, he admits, his own ‘girls’ are well versed in bonding early and utilizing the ‘claiming’ system, to snatch a foal from the ‘For Sale’ page.
But his eyes glow proudly over the knowledge, his mares’ pedigrees are not the only thing being passed on to future generations at Third River Ranch.
