Leo (#0001335)
Best remembered as a broodmare sire, Leo's sale to Bud Warren in 1947 is recorded in AQH lore as the moment when the state of Oklahoma laughed. Known to many as a 'crippled' horse, Warren said in interview, years later, "...I was the biggest chump in Oklahoma."
Bud and Leo soon quieted the critics. The decision to "mail the check" paid off in a line that includes Hall of Fame Inductees, Supreme Champion Leo Maudie as well as World Champions in Performance and Halter.
Leo lived to the age of 27 and was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 1989, Learn more about Leo at AQHA Hall of Fame.
