Description:
Pedigree & Disposition Combined
This outstanding mare is bred to the hilt, boasting a pedigree packed with legendary names like Genuine Doc and Colonel Freckles. As our very first foal of 2016, she grew up reaping the benefits of being thoroughly spoiled by our grandchildren—resulting in an incredibly sweet, people-loving disposition.
Don’t let her gentle nature fool you, though; she is built right, with the athletic conformation needed to get down in the dirt and turn on a dime. Under saddle as a two-year-old, she blew us away with her trainability. After just 30 days of riding, she was so solid and easy-handling that you could stand up on her back or do just about anything around her. Over the years, she has proven to be an easy-keeping, even-tempered, and invaluable asset to our ranch.
The Pedigree
This exceptional mare boasts a pedigree packed with AQHA royalty, combining legendary “cow sense,” athletic prowess, and proven performance on both sides.
Dam’s Side: The Freckles & Sugar Bars Legacy
The highlights of her maternal lineage trace back to Jewel’s Leo Bars, sire of the legendary Colonel Freckles (this mare’s great-grandsire).
-
Colonel Freckles: A foundational cutting horse sire and AQHA Hall of Famer renowned for his athletic prowess, deep “cow sense,” and intelligence. His offspring have earned millions across NCHA, NRHA, and NRCHA events.
-
Sugar Bars: “Ms Freckles” also carries the bloodline of Sugar Bars—a personal favorite of Tex’s—celebrated for producing elite speed event racehorses and high-quality performance horses.
Sire’s Side: Hall of Fame Royalty
Her paternal pedigree is a “who’s who” of legendary Quarter Horse giants:
-
Diamonds Sparkle: An outstanding show horse and legendary broodmare. She was inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame in 1996 and the AQHA Hall of Fame in 2007.
-
Doc Bar: The stallion who revolutionized the cutting horse industry. Inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 1993, he was famous for passing on his signature traits. As Charlie Ward of the Jensen Ranch noted, “His colts are all uniform and possess a lot of sense. They’re easy to train, they have a lot of natural ability—every one of them is cowy.”
-
Poco Bueno: A 1990 AQHA Hall of Fame inductee who sired 405 registered foals, including 36 AQHA Champions and 3 NCHA Hall of Famers. Trainer Bob Fagan once said of him, “To tell you the truth, Poco Bueno was the greatest horse I’ve ever been with… He was easy to handle. Gentle. And smart. Nearly all his colts were the same way.”
