Third River Ranch has been over 50 years in the making. Tex fell in love with horses as a young child, but it wasn’t until 1965 that he purchased his first registered mare, which was a Poco Bueno bred mare. He and Linda continued to grow their remuda, staying true to foundation type blood lines.
His mares’ lines now include Poco Bueno, Leo, Sugar Bars, Bartender, Doc Bar, Sun Frost, Colonel Freckles, and Shining Spark, some of the most well- known blood lines in the Quarter Horse Association.
Recently the ranch has acquired some new bloodlines to keep up with the demands and desires of the horse community. We have added Dash for Cash, High Brow Cat, Peptoboonsmal and most recently Paddys Irish Whiskey lines to our list of valued pedigrees. We are very excited to see how these new bloodlines cross with our current bloodlines.
As the years progress, Tex and Linda’s daughters are also becoming involved, with Danni heading up the website, social media and customer communications and Sherry and Becky, while living out of state, offer help when they visit as well as ideas and encouragement. Bailey, a granddaughter who lives next door, is becoming more involved in handling the mares, stallions and young horses, learning everything she can from her grandfather so his years of knowledge and experience are never forgotten or lost. Jaelyn, the other next door granddaughter, is called upon when taming all of the foals and coming up with new ideas for communications, gifts and the website. We value God and family and we love that this has become a passion that the whole family is involved in.
For years we have used our horses for our own pleasure, roping, and riding with our kids and grandkids. We are now at the point in our lives that while we still enjoy riding, we also want to be able to provide a horse with excellent bloodlines and mind to others looking to fulfill their dreams. Whether it be owning their first horse or competing. It is an honor and a blessing that the Lord has chose to use our horses to bring happiness to so many others, each year gets more and more exciting!
In raising young horses, we can provide a Top Quality horse to someone for thousands less than they would pay for a finished horse with the same foundation bloodlines.
Our Goal
Our aim is to raise horses with good dispositions, great ability to be versatile enough to compete at high levels in many different events or just to be that horse that you can get on and simply enjoy. We breed for good bone and good conformation with dependable bloodlines that have produced many winners. Our horses have speed, quickness and are very athletic.
